David Ray “Jake” Heck, 68, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013, at Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.
Born in Oblong, Illinois on June 17, 1944, he was the son of Ray Bruce Heck and Leah F. (Banning) Heck. He was a graduate of Oblong High School ~ Class of 1963. He was a factory worker and also repaired c.b. radios and small electronics on the side. He was a member of the Oblong Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed playing pool; working on cars; driving around and going to the drive-in; going target shooting with Gene Wilson; watching movies; playing card games with his nieces and enjoyed good times with others. He had an infectious laugh. Despite a life long illness, David believed in living life to the fullest every day. He shared his characteristic determination, sense of humor and positive attitude with us all.
Survivors include his mother, Leah F. Heck; three nieces, Lisa Wilson, Kathy Wilson and Anita & Tim Benoit; three great-nephews, Chris, James and Cody Wilson; two great-nieces, Nicole and Jessica Benoit; several cousins; one uncle, Kenny & Nancy Bannington; and two aunts, Ruth Yager and Mary Green.
Preceding him in death was his father, Ray B. Heck; three sisters, Barbara & Beverly Heck and Glenda Sue Heck Wilson; grandparents, Milo & Rachel Banning and C. O. & Louella Heck.
Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
